The developer preview of Windows 8 basically served only as a test platform for app developers. There was little to say about features or apps, since this first Windows 8 release appeared to be a backbone for the upcoming beta distro.
Obviously, Microsoft is going to put in lots of new features or change some of the existing ones with regard to the beta release. Windows 8 beta is supposed to introduce new touch gestures, a zoom function, but also more control when using the mouse, as well as the Windows Media Center's return to the start screen.
At CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2012, Microsoft offered a 15-minute tour of the best new stuff, which will be available in late February as another public developer preview or a much rumored beta release.
