IrfanView is a great freeware picture viewer that contains the most important features: a browser, slide show and editing capabilities.
IrfanView is a small and compact freeware graphic viewer for Windows 9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista. In addition to supporting over 60 graphical formats, Audio and Video and animated GIFs can also be read. This free software integrates a format converter, image processing and scanner control element.
This viewer shows almost every known format, and is easy to use.

When you’ve managed to accumulate hundreds of images on your computer, it’s important to have an efficient tool like IrfanView to help tackle the masses.

Sifting through huge amounts of images can be a seemingly endless nightmare, but IrfanView presents itself as a no-nonsense tool to help you get the job done. When you first open IrfanView it looks simple. For some, maybe too simple. But this is what is great about IrfanView. It’s there to do a job without the bells and whistles.
IrfanView is first and foremost a viewer, and a fast one at that. Choose to open an image and in a blink it’s there. Use the left and right arrows to cycle through your pictures and IrfanView snaps to each image, refitting the viewing window as you go. If you don’t want to cycle through one by one, then choose to browse a collection of smaller images with the Thumbnail browser. At times though, IrfanView did slow down when trying to deal with large amounts of thumbnails.
Besides the viewer, however, IrfanView provides some useful and powerful extras including basic image editing tools and a slideshow option. If you need to rename a bunch of images, or want to change them to a different type of file, IrfanView has a great Batch Conversion tool. Select the images you want changed, choose your criteria for the new images, and let IrfanView churn away at them automatically. It supports almost all file types and with its plug-in support, the application is ever increasing in ability.
IrfanView is clean and efficient, with a good range of features and this free tool will definitely make your life better when trying to dig through that expanding collection of images.
