Why is it the 'retro' is so cool, especially in the world of gaming?  Is it because we are longing for what we had when we were young or is it a fact much simpler than that?  Is it simply because the games back then were so cool and simple to play?
 
For all they boast great things, the new games of today are pulling away from what the original arcade games were about; Fantasy. Today games are trying to be as realistic as possible with all sorts of physics engines and graphics working away to make the gaming experience as real as possible.

Pac-Man is a classic example of substance over style.  Introduced in 1980, Pac-Man was different to the influx of Space Shooter that had hit North America, like Space Invaders and Asteroids and the sports games that were spawned by another classic, Pong.  Pac-Man was a breath of fresh air that breezed through the gaming halls as it not only created a new genre of game, but also appealed to fans of both other genres.  Pac-Man is often credited with being a landmark in video game history, and is among the most famous arcade games of all time.
 
The Pac-Man character has appears in almost 30 officially licensed spin-offs along with countless unofficial and cloned titles.  Pac-Man is a timeless game and according to a recent poll is thee most recognised gaming character amongst American consumers with of 94% able to name the little yellow dot.
