The free program Smartwriter makes it possible to recognize the handwriting of the user on a normal PC and to convert it to letters, words, and numbers.
Smartwriter is accessed as a symbol in the Taskbar that allows the user to switch between hand-written text input or keyboard input. The free tool allows the user to draw a letter or number on a specified area of the surface, which the computer then scans and recognizes. Smartwriter includes a trainable component for easier recognition of the user's handwriting, but presents similar handwriting recognition problems to those of Handheld PCs.
