How To: Burn a CD or DVD using Burn4Free

CD and DVD burning software is abundant on the internet, with what seems like a new burning tool being released every month with new features. Burn4Free is a little different, in that it aims for simplicity instead of overwhelming options. Its streamlined Easy Mode is ideal for users who just want to burn audio, video or documents to a CD or DVD disk, without any unnecessary fuss.

Our guide to Burn4Free will show you how to install the application and get started with burning your files in no time at all.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • 1

Access the related download link for this article and grab the executable file for Burn4Free. Once this has finished downloading, locate the file in your downloads folder and run it to start the installation process. Follow the on-screen prompts throughout installation. Burn4Free comes bundled with the Burn4Free Filebuldog toolbar for Internet Explorer, be sure to disable this option before proceeding if you do not want your browser modified in any way.

  • 2

After installation, launch Burn4Free using the desktop shortcut, or check the Launch Burn4Free Now box on the last page of installation to start the program automatically.

  • 3

The first time you start Burn4Free you will be asked to select your language. Choose your default language from the list and click OK. Click Yes if you want to allow Burn4Free to automatically check for updates to the application, or No if you prefer to do this manually by clicking the Update button later.

  • 4

Click New on the Burn4Free toolbar (an icon of a blank document) to start a new burning project. Click Yes to confirm. Enter the name of the project into the Volume Name field, then click Add on the toolbar to start adding files for burning.

  • 5

In the dialog that appears, locate and select a folder on the left hand tree containing files you wish to burn. The contents of the folder are shown in the main panel. Click the files you wish to burn (hold CTRL whilst clicking to select multiple files) or press CTRL and A to select them all. Click Add to Compilation to continue.

  • 6

Repeat Step 5 if you want to add more files from a different folder to your burning compilation.

  • 7

Insert a blank CD or DVD into your burner drive.

  • 8

If you selected audio files to burn, you can choose to create an audio CD that will play on a regular CD player, instead of a data CD (if you selected any other type of file, you have no choice, the compilation must be a data one). Audio CDs cannot contain as many tracks as data CDs, however. Note the running time of the CD is shown in the bottom left of the interface. If you want to create an audio CD, you must keep the running time under 74 mins.

  • 9

To begin burning, click Burner and choose Burn Data or Burn Audio, depending on what kind of a compilation you want to create. Burn4Free starts burning and your CD or DVD will be ready for use a few moments later.

Tips & Advice

  • Burn4Free is also capable of producing an ISO image file of your compilation. This can be loaded into any ISO compatible application and used to create a CD/DVD containing the files you selected. Click Burner and choose Build ISO, then specify a location and filename to save the ISO as.
  • The Burn ISO option in the Burner menu is the correct one for burning ISO image files (either ones created by you or something downloaded from the internet) to disk.
