How To: Convert Multiple JPEG Scans into a Single PDF File using PrimoPDF
These days almost everyone has a scanner at home. They come in extremely useful when official documents need to be sent via email or fax, producing an electronic copy of any paperwork in just a few seconds.
The problem with most scanners is that they create a single JPEG or PNG file for each page in a document, and sending a collection of files via email is always a little cumbersome - not to mention slightly unprofessional.
PrimoPDF is a neat PDF "printer" that integrates with Windows and allows you to output any file (including scanned documents) to PDF format. It also takes this one step further by allowing you to combine multiple files into a single PDF document which can then be sent much more easily by email. Read on to learn how.
Access the related download link for this article and grab the PrimoPDF installer file, PrimoPDF5102.exe. Once this has transferred locally to your computer, run it to commence the installation process and follow the on-screen prompts.
After installation, PrimoPDF will be integrated into Windows and available as a separate "printer". This means that choosing the Print option in any application will allow you to select PrimoPDF as the printer, and create a PDF file from the document that is currently loaded. The same applies for the right-click Print option within Windows Explorer. Locate some scanned image files in Explorer that you wish to convert to a single PDF document.
Hold the left CTRL button and click each of the image files to be converted to PDF. Once all the files have been selected, right-click any one of them and choose Print.
Select PrimoPDF as the printer in the dropdown list of the Print dialog that opens. Choose the Paper Size, Quality and format that is relevant to the document you are producing. Click Print to proceed.
The PrimoPDF options are displayed. Choose eBook (which combines all of the selected images into a single document) and click Create PDF.
Select a location on your hard drive to store the PDF document, and choose a filename. Click OK to complete the process.
The PDF is generated, with each selected file as a separate page in the document. Open the location specified in the previous step, and double-click the file. It will open in your default PDF reader.
Tips & Advice
- Once the document has been created, it can be easily attached to an email and then sent to colleagues prospective employers, clients or business contacts. They will much prefer to receive the document in this format than a group of disjointed JPEG files.
- The recipients of your document must have a PDF reader installed before they can open it. There are many free PDF readers available on the internet, such as Foxit .
